Going Green

"Going Green" isn't just a hot topic phrase— it's a way of business and sustainability that matters to all of our communities. Here at Equus Run, we have been practicing "going green" over the last 10+ years before we knew it was a media topic of interest. What are we doing to help reduce our waste footprint and build a better community? A lot of things, some simple— some complex, but every bit helps and is important to our community. We are trying to make a difference— a little bit at a time as best possible!
  • We partnered with Kentucky Utilities to audit our energy consumption and install energy monitoring regulation devices to prevent excessive energy use on our HVAC units
  • Old incandescent light bulbs have been replaced with energy efficient low-wattage bulbs wherever electrically feasible— alot of bulbs on the 38 acre site!
  • 1000 gallon storage tanks for winery waste water are used to reduce runoff onto the land during wine production processes
  • All cardboard paper boxes, magazines, other paper products, aluminum and plastics are recycled with the help of Woodford County recycling department
  • Pesticide use and harsh chemical fertilizers have been reduced 40% over the last 10 years with improved vineyard management techniques
  • Collect used bottles and provide them free of charge to home winemakers and recycle.com
  • Replaced mercury dial thermostats with digital timed thermostats to regulate HVAC use each 7 day period
  • Use grape must compost to reclaim the eroded creek bank areas
  • Installed dawn to dusk controls on night lighting to prevent unwanted electricity usage
