Our Reds

Cabernet Franc 2008
Equus Run Cabernet Franc 2008
A luscious deep red wine with European oak vanilla on the nose and a toasted nutty almond smooth finish.
Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Equus Run Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
The Cabernet Sauvignon is a year-round staple to our wine offerings. Equus Run Cabernet Sauvignon is a soft tannin wine with a bouquet of jammy fruit preserves, especially blackberry and ripe black cherry. There is also a faint hint of vanilla, which was imparted by the twelve months of American and European oak ageing. On the palate, the cab is well-balanced and the tannins register on the back of the tongue with lingering flavors are dark chocolate with touches of coffee and hazelnut.
Merlot 2007
Equus Run Merlot 2007
This vintage has a very ripe purple plum and black cherry palate, with a long warm finish. The tannins from the contact with the skins during fermentation and with the oak during the twelve-month aging period make their presence known. Along the tannins, there is a little heat on the finish— a clue that there is some alcohol in this juice. Try the 2007 Merlot with steak blackened on the grill or some steaming spicy Cajun jambalaya.
Pinot Noir 2008
Equus Run Pinot Noir 2008
This flavorful vintage offers scents of bright berry fruit, black plum, hint of oak and mid-palate spice. It is a young fruity red wine with soft, approachable tannins. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks with Hungarian Oak chips and aged in 2 year old American Oak barrels. There is one component in which Pinot Noir seems naturally quite rich, three to four times higher compared to other varieties, especially when it is grown in cooler and more humid climates: resveratrol. While this may not affect the aspects of sensory enjoyment, it may draw the attention of health-conscious consumers! Enjoy our first baby Pinot!

Our Whites

Chardonnay 2008
Equus Run Chardonnay 2008
A dry, crisp white wine with a very light hint of oak. Stainless fermented at 55 degrees with flavors of granny smith apples and fresh green pear. Light acidity on the palate. The key to our Chardonnay is good fruit- and a tentative use of oak. The cool fermentation delivers a wine that tastes lightly oaked for three-months— just enough time to impart hints of oak flavor that soften some of chardonnay's naturally-occurring acidity. It is a good chardonnay for fans of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon blends.
Vidal Blanc 2008
Equus Run Vidal Blanc 2008
The Vidal Blanc is a hybrid varietal created from the parents Ugni Blanc (also known as Trebbiano, a white Italian grape blended in Chianti) and another early French American hybrid, Rayon d'Or (also known as Seibel). The cross was devised by prolific French hybridizer Jean Louis Vidal. Despite the international history the Vidal Blanc vines are right at home in the Bluegrass terroir, and the Vidal Blanc is a perennial best-seller. Following a bouquet of honey on grapefruit are fruit flavors of sweet Granny Smith Apples with a twist of lime. Like the Riesling, the Vidal Blanc is a semi-sweet style wine. It is distinct, however, because it has an acidic quality adds a refreshing crispness for a short, clean finish. Hybrid history aside, the Vidal Blanc is like a cross between Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, resulting in a Kentucky wine that would appease the staunchest Pinot Grigio devotee. Because of its sweet-acidic mouthfeel, the Vidal Blanc is a great match for an endive salad, and it is a superb compliment to spicier ethnic cuisines, like Indian or Thai curry dishes.
Viognier 2008
Equus Run Viognier 2008
Golden dry-style wine with floral bouquet and fruity aromas that are vibrant on the palate. Notes of orange blossoms and melon, medium-bodied with a crisp, lingering pear finish. Pair with seafood dishes, salads and patio sipping!
White Riesling 2008
Equus Run White Riesling 2008
Equus Run pioneered the way for the adaptation of Germany's cold-climate-loving Riesling to central Kentucky with two special clones. Our Riesling is our most populr varietal and has won numerous awards and accolades over the last 10+ years. We have chosen to make our vintage in a semi-sweet style and stop fermentation before the last 2% of the grape juice's natural sugar ferments into alcohol, and so we preserve some of the Riesling's trademark sweetness. The 2008 Riesling has an aromatic nose of flowers, and a very delicate mouthfeel, with a prominent fruit-forward flavor of ripe pear, pineapple and a light note of honeydew melon on the finish. The residual sugar presents itself as a pleasant lingering sweetness. The Riesling is a good accompaniment to lighter fare like a fruit and cheese platter or mixed greens, but it is substantial enough to pair with fish or chicken off the grill.

Our Rosés

Bacchus Blush 2008
Equus Run Bacchus Blush 2008
We think the Roman god of merriment would approve his namesake- this is our sweet, light-hearted blend that is often spotted in picnic baskets and in the glasses of vineyard concert-goers sitting before the amphitheatre during our summer concert series. The Bacchus Blush is comprised mostly of our semi-sweet Riesling and Vidal Blanc, with a touch of our Concord and just enough Merlot to give it color and a little bite. It has a bouquet of spring flowers, and the blend of varietals play in the mouth like a fruit salad with flavors of pear, melon, table grapes, and ripe strawberries. Try the Bacchus Blush with the blue cheese on a cheese platter or a Mediterranean salad covered in feta crumbles- the sugar of the wine tastes great with salty foods!
Cabernet Blanc de Noir 2008
Equus Run Cabernet Blanc de Noir 2008
This unique rosé-style blend wine has been a cross-over hit between white and red fans alike. The wine blend, 100% stainless-steel fermented, consists mostly of cabernet sauvignon, with small percentages of Riesling and Chardonnay. The flavor components are interesting and enjoyable, because of the blend. Hints of bing cherry leading into a red berry ending of cranberries and raspberries. The 1% residual sugar compliments the tannins from the dominant cab component to give the wine a solid red wine backbone with a soft touch, which is much appreciated by our customers who are ready for something red and chilled but who aren’t quite ready for the complexity of a full-blown red wine.
