Equus Run Vineyards

Equus Run Vineyards
Equus Run Vineyards started as an initial retirement plan in 1998, but it didn’t stay that way for long. It quickly became an idea to act upon and grow into something lasting.
A Kentucky native, our founder Cynthia Bohn grew up on a tobacco farm. A natural marketer and “jack of all trades” farm girl, she earned multiple degrees in engineering, arts, education and business before beginning what eventually became a 30+ year career with IBM. Cynthia’s roles with IBM took her all across the globe, but it was in Europe that she developed a strong appreciation for culture around wine—how it brought people together, how closely it was connected to the land, and how vines, once planted, could produce grapes for decades with the right care.

Returning to Kentucky, Cynthia purchased our current farm location, an old tobacco and cattle farm along the South Elkhorn Creek. The community, family and numerous friends all helped transform the farm into a working winery. The two old barns were renovated into a winery and the other into a four-season event venue. The old farmhouse was turned into the winery office and a rustic tool shed was transformed into our Tasting Room with patio gardens. And just recently an outdoor picnic shelter was dramatically transformed into a beautiful banquet hall.
Today, Equus Run has several acres of estate-grown vines which are cultivated and harvested to help produce our wines year after year. Cynthia studied at UC Davis, California and learned from several icons in the wine industry. In addition to using our own grapes, Cynthia has grape growing contracts with other grower families across the U.S. to create our wine blends.

On the same farm property is also Saddlestone Distillery, where we make small-batch craft brandies and agave spirits. We are a working farm, a winery, a distillery, and a gathering place for friends and family. Our menu portfolio combines wines and spirits complimented with local beers, craft cocktails and even specialty mocktails for customer enjoyment. We have a little bit of something for everyone!
It’s a full-circle story of returning to the land, reimagining its future, and building something meant to last in our beautiful Bluegrass countryside.
